As part of Elmira College’s efforts to generate a diverse and inclusive community on campus, the Office of Social and Cultural Engagement (SCE) was established to enrich the student experience.

The SCE office is focused on supporting students and enriching the campus community through cross-cultural and social engagement opportunities.

Elmira College’s Mission to help students become globally engaged students is accomplished, in part, by cultivating opportunities in which the campus collaborates and celebrates each other from all walks of life.

The IDEA Center

The IDEA Center, which stands for Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility, is an area located in the Campus Center designed to provide students with a supportive, student-focused space. The IDEA Center provides a place for students to gather in a casual setting, where student clubs can meet and host programs, and special speakers and events can be featured.

Student Clubs and Organizations

The Office of DEI is actively engaged with student clubs, honor societies, and one-on-one student mentoring. The Office provides advisory support to ensure students have the necessary resources and support throughout their entire experience. The Office of SCE also provides leadership development and programs centered around self-care, community involvement, and professionalism to help ensure the success of the student leadership.

Campus Awareness

In an effort to enrich the campus as a whole, the Office of SCE initiates and implements efforts to spread awareness and celebrate other cultures. From working with dining services and celebrating cultures through food to inviting guest speakers to campus to share life and professional experiences, the College has the opportunity to share in the experience of other cultures together.
